Abstract
The traditional union bound (Cavers and Ho, 1992) used for the analysis of coded modulations in flat Rayleigh fading tends to be very loose with highly correlated fading (e.g., a small Doppler spread). This work examines the reasons for this looseness and proposes a bound called the progressive union bound (PUB). The PUB permits a tradeoff between the tightness of the bound and the complexity in calculating the bound
