Abstract :
High frequency flow imaging methods are emerging as tools that can provide unique information about blood flow in the microcirculation. In this study, simulations are conducted to investigate the effects of system parameters and tissue properties on the expected blood to tissue power ratio (BTR) for microvessels located along the axis of a spherically focused single element transducer. Results are shown which illustrate the effects of f-number, bandwidth, center frequency, vessel caliber and vessel orientation. These factors can have a significant impact on sensitivity and the quantitative interpretation of high frequency flow imaging data
