Abstract
In this paper, a method for the improvement of video coding efficiency in terms of bit-rate reduction and quality preservation using texture analysis/synthesis is presented. To perform this, we propose that given a known encoder, an additional and independent coding stage be used to code textures parametrically, removing those textures from the original sequence that is coded without them. At the decoder, the reconstruction is obtained by reinserting a synthesized approximation of the original texture in the decoded sequence. Experimental results show that a good compromise in bit-rate reduction versus quality is achieved.
