Abstract
This paper presents a novel and compact ultra wideband microstrip-fed crossed monopole antenna. The impedance bandwidth of a rectangular patch antenna is increased by including a cross plate of suitable dimension. The crossed monopole shows the return loss of 10 dB over the ultra wideband frequency range (3.1 - 10.6 GHz) while maintaining the stability in radiation pattern. The effects of the parameters on the performance of the antenna are investigated. The measured result for the return loss of a prototype antenna is presented for verification of the simulated result.
