  • Abstract
    A new method for two-dimensional multi-ary signaling in optical networks is presented, which combines two signaling schemes, D-ary PPM and D-ary FSK. Jointly with code-division multiple-access (CDMA), higher data rates than in conventional CDMA systems and larger network sizes can be achieved. Also fewer frequencies than in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) are required
