Abstract
A bowtie antenna composed of a single element and based in the antenna proposed in [J. George et al., 1996] is presented. The main difference for the original antenna is that the proposed antenna operates at the second resonance frequency. It is shown that the bandwidth is considerably larger when the antenna operates at the second resonance frequency. The dependence of the second resonance frequency with the width of the patch was established through simulations. The great advantage of this antenna is the size reduction of the radiant element when compared to a conventional rectangular patch with similar characteristics and operating at the same frequency. The radiation characteristics are similar to those of a rectangular antenna.
