Abstract
We describe our research in the field of application specific instruction-set processors. We first show our approach to design integrated processors, and compare it to other approaches. We focus on the importance of the front-end compiler, which can lead to different optimization strategies. This approach is different from other published works, in the sense that the processor and all its architecture changes to optimize a system are defined only after the code it must execute is known, and not the other way around. We present the results of our system in some case studies, and we conclude by showing some results of a RISC used as a microcontroller
