Abstract :
East Japan Railway Company (JR East) is one of the seven railway companies founded in April 1987 upon the division and privatization of the old Japanese National Railways. As the largest railway company in Japan, JR East has a network of 7,538.2 kilometers of tracks in the Tokyo area and eastern Honshu Main Island, and more than 16 million passengers are using our service everyday. JR East, as a future-oriented company, is making efforts for creative technological development in both hardware and software elements to enable numerous services, befitting the new era of technological innovation. Our automatic fare collection system with contactless IC Card is one of the results of such development. It has been introduced into the stations within a radius of about 100 kilometers in Tokyo Metropolitan Area.
