Abstract :
An asymptotic formula is presented for obtaining production rates as a function of system parameters. It is also shown that there are some equivalences between open and closed serial production lines. Specifically, the production rate of a closed serial production line is equivalent to that of an open serial production line depending mainly on the total amount of work-in-process in the closed serial production line. The results offer analytical tools for the system design, i.e., the choice of free parameters of the system, to maximize production rate
