Abstract :
A wind-sensor and its interface electronics have been integrated on a single CMOS chip. The chip is heated above ambient temperature and employed as a two-dimensional thermal flow-sensor. The interface electronics consists of three thermal sigma-delta modulators that control and simultaneously digitize the (flow-dependent) heat distribution in the chip. The bit-stream outputs of the modulators are decimated externally, and the results may be used to determine wind speed and direction
