Abstract :
The methodology presented in this paper describes a Java performance-engineering framework that will help software engineers and capacity planners eliminate performance problems and determine reasonable hardware configurations prior to application deployment. The framework focuses on (1) measuring and modeling Java methods during development, (2) refining the model created during development with performance measurements provided by quality assurance (QA) testing, and (3) using the model before the application is deployed to conduct capacity studies aimed at minimizing hardware configuration while maximizing transaction throughput.
