Abstract
Difference box-counting method (DBCM) was used for partial discharge (PD) gray intensity image fractal dimension estimation, however, ldquoempty boxrdquo may exist and lead to a larger box-number than normal over fractal surface, therefore it is not universal to fractal dimension estimation for digital images, especially when the surfaces vary a lot. The Minimum Box-Counting Method (MBCM) is proposed for fractal dimension estimation and the piecewise hunting method for searching fractal scale independent range are presented. The fractal examples of gas insulation switchgear (GIS)PD gray image and typical Brodatz texture image approve the effectiveness of the method.
