Abstract
We present an example of an observation function which globally observes the Smale Horseshoe, considered as a discrete time nonlinear dynamical system. Our purpose is to present a paradigm for observability of chaotic systems based on symbolic dynamics, and also to illustrate some pathologies which can arise due to the exponential instabilities inherent in chaotic dynamical systems.
