Abstract :
A discrete-event simulation model has been developed as a basis for the study that has been performed to help understand the dynamic behavior of a funicular-type train transportation system of people and vehicles under a mountain. The modeling approach is followed to distinguish between design parameters and output criteria. Civil engineering costs (stations and platforms, areas for waiting vehicles and for loading and unloading of passengers, railways and locomotives) as well as waiting times of the users and occupation of the resources are analyzed and counterbalanced in terms of the length of the convoy. Flow considerations relative to time schedules are also discussed.
