Abstract :
The authors present field trials, along with their results, which show that automation applied to public lighting improves efficiency and reduces management costs. At the end of these experiment, it will be possible to quantify better cost/benefit parameters and the impact of automation on the existing organisation. They argue that public lighting service could represent a real business opportunity for all electric utilities in the near future since, in Europe alone, there are more then 70 million luminaries installed which need to be managed
