Abstract
Everyone using meters and peripherals suffers from the large number of proprietary protocols in the field of automatic meter reading (AMR). Most, though not all of the meters, use their own method of transporting information provided by the measurement units. The aim for the future is a language for AMR which is vendor-independent and gives the user an interoperable protocol. Here, the author describes the DLMS-COSEM protocol, which defines a set of objects to build a model of the meter, and clarifies methods to transport information between the meter and central data collection station
