Abstract
This paper presents pre-feasibility study of a MW wind power generation in Thailand. The 18 meteorological stations were installed in southern Thailand along the coastal lines of the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. Wind speed and direction were measured at 20 m, 30 m, and 40 m during August 07 - July 08. Site dependent wind shear coefficients were analyzed using logarithmic law. Wind statistics were analyzed using WAsP 9.0. Annual energy production, capacity factor, cost of energy, and CO2 emission avoidance were analyzed. Results showed that the 1 MW wind turbine generator installations along the coastal line of Nakhon Si Thammarat province were utmost possible due to the highest AEP and were in the range of 2.4-4.3 GWh/year. The capacity factors were 27.6-49.5%. The CoE were 3-6 cents/kWh. Finally, it was found that the 18 MW wind power plants operation could avoid the CO2 emission about 13.5 kton CO2/year.
