  • Abstract
    A possible workflow for designing high power electronic converters for using with renewable sources, such as wind energy farms, is proposed. It takes care of both the control strategies and the electrical characteristics of the electron devices (as IGBTs and PiN diodes) used for the converter. The control feedback loop is designed by using a MATLAB/SIMULINKtrade based model, while a more detailed electron device behavior is investigated with other simulation tools, such as PSPICE, in order to obtain a correct evaluation of switching and conduction power losses and to estimate the efficiency of the converter. Application on a machine-side converter for wind turbine is shown.
