Abstract :
The search is on for alternative ways for clean energy storage sources for electrical and electronic devices. There are various forms of storing energy and the applications of energy storage have a wide range of performance requirements. The most important features are the sustainability, efficiency, storage capacity and discharge duration. This work provides a feasibility study of small compressed air energy storage (CAES) system for portable electrical and electronic devices. The applications and the small scale CAES prototype implementations are evaluated to determine how they match the chosen use cases. Classification of small scale CAES implementations is made on the basis of available energy, power output and efficiency. This work concentrates on technical implications but economics and environmental aspects or of small-CAES system are also considered.
