Abstract :
Currently, the numbers of students accessing eBooks through Smartphones and Tablet PCs have continued to grow. However, the current eBook is in digital form and does not provide adaptive content. This paper presents the design and preliminary prototype of the adaptive eBook as well as a new adaptive presentation for portable electronic tactile displays. We have conducted a study to investigate the students´ preferences on the proposed eBook via an online questionnaire. The study materials contain two eBook formats, which differ in contents, appearance and layout. The first format contains only the digital form of the book, and the second eBook contains an adaptive version. The questionnaire requests information on the most preferred eBook in terms of navigation proposed and design, page layout, content design, adaptive, interactivity, accessibility, usability, and overall observation. Findings of the study prove that the proposed eBook is more accessible, usable, and has a great impact on the performances of the students.
