Lack of safe drinking water is a major problem in rural areas, it also persists in places like irrigation districts. this study was carried out to establish the accessibility of water in rural areas of Jinghuiqu Irrigation District(JHQID). In these areas, main sources of water for domestic purposes were groundwater and the piped water coverage rate was low, only 1,204,500 residents got their drinking water from centralized water supply systems, just under a half of the total rural population, still 14.95% of population without sustainable safe water supply. There are 1,214,700 residents obtained untreated water from shallow wells, springs, rivers and rain cellars, and water quality, quantity and convenience could not be guaranteed. high occurrence of excess fluoride and TDS content in groundwater is the main water quality problem. These findings show that in rural areas of JHQID, domestic water quality and quantity is substandard and facilities and equipments for water purification is inadequate, the availability of safe water was not ensured.
