Abstract :
Active power filters are being developed as a viable alternative to passive filters for meeting harmonic distortion limits imposed on distribution systems. This paper presents a systematic design procedure for the components of an active power filter based on a voltage source topology, in a three-phase four-wire connection. It also investigates the dynamic performance of the active power filter particularly under unbalanced load conditions. A 5 kVA prototype filter is used to obtain performance features and validate theoretical considerations
