Abstract
In this paper, a new method to find the point of voltage collapse is proposed. Taking advantage of the sparsity of load flow Jacobian matrix, the Arnoldi algorithm finds a few smallest singular values fast and efficiently. Based on these singular values, curve fitting is used to estimate the maximum load factor corresponding to the point of voltage collapse. The proposed method is proven effective on an equivalent 1490-bus ERCOT system
