Abstract
In this paper, a planar beam-forming antenna array is proposed by using the orthogonal radiation modes of coupled antenna system. Mode-decomposition allows channel capacity to be fully exploited while the mutual coupling between closely spaced antennas is significantly reduced. For low profile design, a four-element patch antenna array module implemented in a double-layer substrate is adopted. For experimental demonstration, the simulated and measured results of a 2.4 GHz antenna array fabricated on low-cost printed circuit board are given.
