Abstract :
As we know that Internet is the ocean of knowledge, therefore it is better to open this ocean to all students as early as possible in their life. This can be done by introducing or using Information Technology & related tools in school education or by using World Wide Web as education delivery medium. The WWW is used not only to disseminate information but it also provides a great prospect to extend learning outside space and time boundaries. The remarkable developments in IT and networking have opened the doors of education for people who are willing but do not have the benefit of a conducive environment. In the era of IT, e-learning can be efficiently used for different types of education. Most of the population of India is in the rural areas where literacy rate is poor due to the lack of educational facilities. But implantation of an e-learning system has some problems. The problems can be solved but needs proper planning and strategies. This paper focuses on the problems for implementing the system in rural area, suggests some strategies to solve these problems. While implementing any system, the understanding of different components and their functions is necessary. in e-learning system there are different components like technology, content, services, e-learner etc. This paper discusses the key issues related with these components and their functions within the system such as services to be provided, content design criteria. The Web based education / learning has potential to meet the perceived need for flexible pace, place & face.
