Abstract :
The emergence of ATM as a service platform will enable the extension of the LAN in both the geographical and service dimensions. Geographically wire speed extension, bridging, routing and LAN emulation services can be mounted on a common platform alongside existing services such as frame relay and SMDS. These services will be delivered to the desktop bridging the network management gap between user and WAN.
