Abstract :
There is a tremendous investment and reliance upon software used to manage remote telecommunication and data communication devices. With the advent of object oriented management protocols, the need to add an agent to interface the object oriented protocol with the existing software poses certain design challenges to preserve the existing investment. Some lessons learned in implementing an object oriented CMIP agent are discussed.
