Abstract
There is a universal demand placed upon the system end user or operator and others interacting with the system at some point during its life-cycle to deliver reliable performance comparable with that of the system. This paper seeks to describe how that might be done in actual practice, explained in terms of underlying philosophy and principle. From the author´s experience, it is the lack of an underlying set of design principles and a perspective on human performance within high integrity systems which can compromise a system´s effectiveness. Therefore, a set of axioms which underpin good design for human performance are propounded, followed by a consideration of relevant analytical methods and then the description of some high integrity display design principles
