Abstract :
Immobilized microorganism technology is an effective method of removing water pollutant in source waters. The effect of biologically immobilized ceramic particles is better in removing the pollutant than simple filter or engineering bacteria liquid, due to the two factors including the adsorption and entrapment function of the filter materials in the biofilter and the biodegradation of the microorganisms. This study analyzed the formation mechanism of biologically immobilized ceramic particles: the large pore on the surface of ceramic particles entrapped the microorganisms, with its surface positively charged to adsorb the microorganisms; then conversely, the amorphous matter secreted by the microorganisms made themselves immobilized on the ceramic particles. In the final part of the study, the variation of microorganism layers in the immobilized bioreactor was observed and investigated to reveal the succession regulations of microorganisms and the characteristics of different layers of microorganisms.
