Abstract
In this paper, we present a combined method based on image processing techniques for image enhancement in electrical resistance tomography (ERT). Image reconstruction in ERT is an ill-posed inverse problem and the most significant drawback of ERT is its poor image quality. We have designed and simulated a new image reconstruction method using image processing techniques to enhance ERT images. The first stage of ERT forward and reverse solver is reach to raw images and then, in second stage, an image noise elimination technique is applied to extract better results from the first step images. Simulation results are presented and compared to those obtained by other more established method such as modified Newton-Raphson (mNR). Results show that the proposed method can sufficiently enhance quality of ERT images. Comparison in results between numerically solved method and the hybrid method represents a considerable improvement in final image quality.
