Abstract :
Different optical modulation schemes are studied to overcome the fiber dispersion effect for transmitting radio frequency (RF) modulated signals. Novel optical single side band (OSSB) schemes are proposed and simulated. The required RF power is investigated for the schemes for different lengths of the fiber. Simulation results of suggested OSSB structures are compared with the results of an existing simulated OSSB modulator. OSSB modulators generally mitigate the dispersion effect of fiber in long haul signal transmission. Performances of the OSSB structures are compared with the double side band modulators´ (ODSB). The optimal RF power settings are determined for every scheme as a crucial factor in order to enhance the link bit error rate (BER). The system is adjusted accordingly so that the best possible BER can be achieved. The performances of these optical modulators for a four dense wavelength division multiplexing (4-DWDM) network are evaluated based on the relevant eye diagrams and BERs.
