Abstract :
In this paper a digital load relief scheme is presented which, when combined with a variable-gain fuzzy logic control strategy, gives significant improvement in diesel generating set load acceptance performance. Test results are presented demonstrating that a commercially available analogue load adjustment implementation can yield improvement in minimization of engine speed deviation for large real power load applications, however the aggressive nature of this scheme results in poor transient voltage regulatory performance. Further test results show that a digital AVR in conjunction with a digital load relief scheme is capable of providing better transient voltage control resulting in overall superior diesel gen-set load acceptance performance.
