Abstract :
It has been known for some time that generators should avoid having a sudden power change greater than 0.5 pu during nearby transmission line switching operations, especially the re-closing operations. This paper suggests that a study on transmission line re-closing should be performed at the initial interconnection study. This paper discusses the potential problem and gives some possible solutions. One solution is ramping down generation to reduce the angle across the breaker before re-closing the breaker. A promising novel solution, a special switching scheme, is presented in the paper. By implementing this scheme, the possibility of ramping down generation might be eliminated, or, at least, the amount of ramping down could be reduced.
