Abstract
This paper introduced the definitions of box dimension and information dimension, and analyzed the characteristics of these dimensions. In this paper the fractal dimensions of GIS partial discharge (PD) signals in time domain for the fault of immobilized metal particles attached to insulator surface were calculated, the variation-trend and relevant characteristics of related dimensions at different discharge stages were analyzed. This paper proposed that with the development of partial discharge, distribution of fractal dimension have a significant transformation, and by analysis of the changing of these two dimensions at different voltage level, the development of PD in electrical equipment could be assessed, this is has great significance to the assessment and diagnosis of insulation condition about electrical equipment.
