Abstract
A wireless surface acoustic wave (SAW) transponder system was developed to monitor the temperature of rotating rollers of an electrolytic galvanizing plant. The exact knowledge of this temperature could be an important process parameter used for an in-line quality control of the galvanized sheets. The rollers as well as the transponders are exposed to hot sulfuric acid, and rotate with a maximum tangential velocity of 2 m/s.
