Abstract
Modern signalling systems have become increasingly more complex allowing the integration of several system elements to provide greater amounts of automation. This paper captures some of the ‘extra’ elements required as the Train Operator does less, or is removed all together, and considers the tradeoffs involved as the level of automation increases.
