Abstract
In this paper, control topologies of variable-speed wind turbine system and the advantages of direct-drive permanent magnetic generator (DDPMG) systems with PWM rectifiers were analyzed. Based on the ratings of its power converters, the limitation to keep constant voltage output of DDPMG with the PWM rectifier is derived; correspondingly, in order to extend variable wind turbine speed range, design criteria of DDPMG are discussed in detail. Then, a DDPMG prototype is figured out and simulated with the power converter systems. Simulated results provided a validation for these ideas.
