Abstract
In single-sink wireless sensor networks, the data traffic follows a many-to-one pattern. This makes nodes around the sink exhaust their energy prematurely and leads to an energy hole, which prevents the outside nodes from sending information to the sink node. Aiming at the energy hole problem in wireless sensor networks, this paper proposes a new analytical model for the energy hole problem, and using this model we investigate the effectiveness of some existing approaches towards mitigating the energy hole problem. Finally, simulation results have been given to validate our analysis.
