Abstract :
Nowadays, the most common fuel cell type is the low temperature proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell. This paper investigated the dynamic behaviour of proton exchange membrane fuel cells working as an autonomous power generator. The described system model includes a PEM fuel cell voltage model with regards to the dynamic limitations of the fuel cell stack and a logistical model for the battery storage. With this system model it is possible to investigate autonomous fuel cell systems, prior to construction, for different dynamic load demand characteristics. The work presented in this paper was done by the authors at the fuel cell lab of the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg.
