Abstract :
We review the present status in the development of the Crossed-Field Secondary Emission electron source. This is a compact device of a magnetron type with smooth cylindrical electrodes that is capable of producing tubular electron beams with a thin, (<1 mm) wall in the range of currents up to a few hundred amperes. The electron beam is generated by a self-sustained secondary electron emission process which thus makes the CFSE diode an essentially cold electron source
