Abstract :
Object-oriented programming (OOP) is a popular approach for modern software design in many fields. However, extending OOP for embedded parallel processing still has conceptual and practical problems. This paper considers concepts for merging OOP with parallel processing. A process-centric view of parallel OOP is presented. The VSIPL (Vector, Signal and Image Processing Library) standard is used as an example. The concept of a parallel VSIPL with OOP features is proposed. These features are based on shared data (rather than on the message-passing paradigm), on the “asynchronous growing processes” formal model of parallel computations and on SDOI (Shared Data Object Interface) middleware
