Abstract :
It is known that utilization of short sounding pulses for ranging and the detection of point targets against the background of interfering reflections, especially at small distances, allows one to substantially increase the target-to-background ratio, due to the reduced size of the resolving cell, and, thus, improve detection characteristics and accuracy of estimates for their parameters. The source of interfering reflections may be a diffuse surface, tropospheric inhomogeneities, meteorological objects, parts of extended targets, etc. In this paper a breadboard model of a radar with a nanosecond sounding pulse is presented
