Abstract :
Various approaches to energy efficient networks may be found in literature. Among them there are route selection and aggregation strategies for multilayer networks. Some of them may aggressively promote extensive usage of an optical layer. In others, the stress is put on efficient utilization of the electric layer devices. Both approaches have their drawbacks and strengths. In the paper, selected strategies of both kinds are presented with a comparative analysis based on numerical results. As a result, some guidelines for energy aware multilayer optical networks are proposed.
