Abstract
This paper discusses two methods for the reception of differential phase shift keyed signals (DPSK) that can be used for processing a signal which is subject not only to Gaussian noise, but also to interference from other radio sources. The methodology used in the paper can be used for all other digital modulation schemes in which a carrier is modulated by data in amplitude, frequency, phase or any combination of them. Algorithms are deduced for the reception of DPSK signals that are optimal when white Gaussian noise and deterministic interference are present. The two criterion used in this paper are the generalized criterion of maximum likelihood ratio and maximum likelihood criterion for fading channels.
