Abstract
The new system applications in the field of optical amplification technology require the use of higher and higher performance modules. The realization of very high power pump modules for EDFA fabrication is very important especially in applications like “remote pumping”. Similarly, the use of semiconductor optical amplifier (SCOA) modules in system experiments like optical preamplifiers or optical switching requires the realization of modules with very high fiber to fiber gain. In addition, requirements like simplicity, compactness and reliability are very important for such modules. To meet these requirements choices of high performance microlensed fibers and laser YAG welding for assembly technology have been made
