Abstract :
This study provides statistical method to evaluate power system losses caused by wind farm interconnections. Focusing on the variable nature of the wind power, Monte Carlo methods have been included in the power flow simulation. By performing a power flow analysis for each hour, the expected behavior of system losses under a variety of conditions can be studied. This kind of method provides important information which is much more consistent with future realistic wind farm performance. The probabilistic results provide more information to choose the best wind farm interconnect location and the system upgrades if necessary. The correlation of system losses with generation and power flow from major substations is analyzed. Linear regression is conducted to estimate system losses and the sensitivity with wind farm output levels in real time condition.
