Abstract
HVDC links represent the most feasible solution for the connection of distant off-shore wind farms. HVDC links based on light controlled thyristors require a source of reactive power for their appropriate steady state and dynamic operation. This paper shows a control method for variable speed wind turbines based on synchronous generators to provide the required reactive power even during fault conditions.
