Abstract :
A surface electromyography (EMG) based muscle activities imaging (sEMG-MAI) approach has been developed using the bioelectrical source reconstruction approach to minimally invasively reconstruct muscle activities in the three dimensional (3D) space of the periurethral muscles (including urethral and anal sphincter, and the surrounding muscles) of the female pelvic floor from multi-channel intra-anal surface EMG recordings. The sEMG-MAI approach is being used to investigate function of the pelvic muscles and urethral sphincter which is an etiologic factor associated with stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in women.
