Abstract :
Real time transmission of compressed video data over power line channels is a challenging task because of the severe characteristics of the power line transmission medium. In particular, efficient video transmission schemes need to cope with sudden channel variations due to the connection of various appliances on the indoor PLC network. In this paper, we propose an original adaptive video transmission scheme based on ARQ and adaptive bit and power loading techniques combined with efficient H.264/AVC video transrating. The transrating algorithm allows adapting dynamically the video bit rate to channel conditions. Both transrating and transmission parameters are jointly optimized to provide the highest video quality to the end-user. The different parts of the proposed system are described, and then the optimization procedure is detailed. Finally, simulation results are given to illustrate the performances of the proposed scheme.
