Abstract :
The concept of coherence is reviewed and the three basic types of coherence-temporal, spectral, and spatial-are described. Common applications of temporal and spatial coherence are briefly discussed, and novel applications of spectral coherence are explained. The link between cyclostationary and spectral coherence is presented. The spectral decomposition of general coherence is briefly reviewed and its application to the characterization of spectral coherence is explained. A variety of signal processing problems where spectral coherence can be exploited are described, and several new spectral-coherence-exploiting algorithms are presented, including a cycle detector and a spectral-correlation-ratio algorithm
